San Diego Padres look across the pond for latest eyewear technology, signing SunGod as new Official Eyewear Partner
San Diego, 11th March 2024 - Performance eyewear brand SunGod has announced a new partnership with the San Diego Padres to become the club’s official eyewear partner in 2024.
The partnership will see the Padres wear SunGod sunglasses both on and off the field this season. The team will step up to the plate in SunGod’s Pace Series™ visor sunglasses, which feature the brand’s proprietary 8KO® nylon lens technology that gives players a better view of the field, through lenses that are as clear as the surface of the human eye.
SunGod’s sunglasses frames are constructed from a highly flexible, lightweight memory polymer, offering players all-day comfort, and every pair is backed by SunGod’s Lifetime Guarantee. This means that if they break, SunGod will repair them free of charge. But breakage is rare - SunGod sunglasses are shatterproof and ultra-durable, exceeding the US’ stringent ANSI Z87.1-2003 regulations on impact resistance. Off the field, the Padres will kick back in SunGod’s Lifestyle Series™, which have skyrocketed in popularity in recent years, and are now the go-to sunglasses for everyone from F1 drivers, to Colorado’s Courtney Dauwalter, the world No.1 trail runner, to even the British Royals.
SunGod’s reputation for timeless, high-performance, carbon-neutral eyewear has caught the attention of some of the world’s most elite sporting properties in recent years. Notable SunGod partnerships include McLaren F1 Team, Emirates SailGP GBR, and 7x Tour de France-winning cycling team INEOS Grenadiers, who ended their decade-long relationship with Oakley in 2023, to sign a multi-year deal with SunGod instead. SunGod uses athlete feedback to constantly refine and enhance their products, setting a new standard in eyewear innovation year on year.
Beyond exceptional product performance, a key driver in the Padres’ new eyewear choice is SunGod’s deep-rooted commitment to sustainability. SunGod joins the likes of Patagonia as a Certified B Corp™ and member of 1% For The Planet, showcasing the brand’s dedication to high standards of social and environmental performance. As a B Corp™, SunGod has a triple bottom line of people, profit and planet written into its legal charter, and King Charles even presented the brand with the King’s Award for Sustainable Innovation in 2023. This recognises SunGod’s far-reaching sustainability initiatives, such as the brand’s certified carbon-neutral status and its Lifetime Guarantee service, which has repaired over 8000 pairs of SunGods for free since 2013, keeping sunglasses in circulation and out of landfill. SunGod’s commitment to both performance and purpose is encapsulated in their simple, yet powerful mission statement: “See Better.”
“The Padres are excited to expand their reach and partner with British performance eyewear brand SunGod,” said Padres CEO Erik Greupner. “We are located in sunny San Diego, which makes SunGod’s cutting edge technology and design the perfect fit for our players both on and off the field. The Padres are also aligned with SunGod’s values around sustainability, and proud to call them a partner.”
Ali Watkiss, Co-Founder and CEO of SunGod said “This is an exciting step for us as a brand. Much of the world looks to California as a global leader in both performance and lifestyle sports. From my first time setting foot in Petco Park eight years ago, to attending a Padres game and engaging with the San Diego community, I knew this is where we belonged. The last two years have seen a significant surge in demand for SunGod in California, so we’re thrilled to officially support a team central to this community. We can’t wait to 'See Better' together.”
