Sunday Times: Best Places to Work 2023

SunGod recognised as one of the UK's best places to work

News

SunGod is officially one of the UK's top-rated employers, by the Sunday Times.

From holiday to personal development, mental health support to volunteering, employee happiness is something we take very seriously at SunGod. We know that our team are our most important asset, and it's essential that they feel fulfilled and motivated, and are given the room to grow both inside and outside of work.

So, we're proud to announce that SunGod has been ranked one of the UK's top places to work, by The Sunday Times Best Places To Work index. This was based on anonymous employee feedback surveys, which asked our team a range of questions across six key areas:

  • Reward & Recognition

  • Information Sharing

  • Empowerment

  • Wellbeing

  • Instilling Pride

  • Job Satisfaction

These are considered to be the six areas that drive workplace engagement, and we're proud that we scored over 85% in all of them. This included an all-important 90% confidence score in how SunGod is run - against an industry average of just 65%.

Empowerment

Empowered employees feel trusted and allowed to make decisions, and are given the tools they need to do their job well. As a result, they're more loyal, committed, and achieve better work - this means empowerment is a key measurement for us!

Our team reported an Empowerment score of 90% (above an industry average of 70%), meaning they feel strongly that they are trusted to make the right decisions to drive our brand forward. This is linked the fact that we trust our team to make the right decisions, and we care about the work they produce, not the hours spent at a desk. If SunGod employees want to take 3 hours off in the middle of the day to go for a trail run or fit in their training ride, they can absolutely do that; they know they're trusted to get their work done at a time that works for them.

Pride

The Sunday Times asked SunGod employees if they felt proud to work for SunGod, and if they felt that their work was worthwhile, giving them a sense of purpose. We scored an incredible 92% in this (28% above the industry average), with 93% of employees saying they would recommend their friends or family to work for SunGod.

Our proud workforce is linked to our brand ethos: for example, 94% of employees agreed that "my company treats environmental sustainability as a priority and backs this up with action". From being carbon-neutral across our products, our operations and our history, to our Lifetime Guarantee that keeps gear in play instead of throwing it away, to our constant innovation to increase our use of Infinte™ recycled materials - our business is built on sustainable foundations, and our employees recognise that and help to drive it forward.

Job Satisfaction

Job satisfaction is deeply personal. It measures whether an employee feels respected and if they have respect for the way their organisation is run; if they feel their skills are being developed; if they have a good relationship with senior management; and overall, if they enjoy their job.

This is a priority for us at SunGod, and we're really proud that this has been reflected in our results: SunGod job satisfaction currently sits at 89%, against an industry average of 68%. This reflects the opportunities for growth and development we offer, such as unlimited training budgets both job-specific skills and for life skills (which has been used for everything from French lessons to Mountain Leader training!).

As a certified B Corp™, we're committed to a triple bottom line of people, profit and planet. SunGod employees are the lifeblood of our brand, and we're incredibly proud that through them, we've been recognised as one of the UK's Best Employers.
